Van Colden

Hi! I’m Van.

I grew up in one of the most beautiful corners of the world, a small French Acadian village in Cape-Breton, known as Isle Madame. Growing up, I often dabbled with drawing, mostly with pencils and coloured pencils. I did not actually pick up paintbrushes until my adult life, but once I gave it a shot, I used both acrylics and oils, falling in love with the latter.

In university, I studied Biology and Physiotherapy, though my heart ached for the arts. I wanted to minor in Fine Arts, but labs interfered with studio requirements so I could not pursue it. Through my studies in Physiotherapy, I developed a keen appreciation for the human body and movement. I continue to promote active living and it makes me particularly happy when I see girls in sports.

Today, my home is based in Calgary, AB, however I spend a great deal of time, particularly during the winter months, in Fernie, BC. In the summers, I am either road tripping in my van with the kids, mountain biking in Fernie, or heading to the East Coast to visit family.

I am so very flattered when someone selects one of my pieces to hang in their homes, as there is no greater compliment for an artist.

Thank you kindly for your interest,

Van
