Whimsical, Bold, & Playful

Van is a Fernie-based artist who began her art journey painting everyday freeze frames, eliciting memories of fun family times at the ski hill. Her vibrant and playful figures provide a dreamlike, take-me-back-to-that-day kind of feeling. Trained as a physiotherapist, she has spent much time studying movement, however, she now spends most of her time with paintbrushes.

Whimsical in nature, she captures fleeting moments through movement and simple actions, leaving the detailed “real-life” depictions up to the photographers and portrait artists.

Van also paints whimsical landscapes. Her pieces are meant to leave you feeling cheerful and amused, with bright, bold colours, and distinctive use of oil paint.
